- Howard served in the Canadian Expeditionary Force, 47th Battalion, during World War 1. He signed his attestation papers on 1 September 1915, in Vernon, British Columbia. He gave his full name as Howard Arthur BROOKS, born Murray Harbour, P.E.I.; his mother, Charlotte M. BROOKS, living at 544 8th. Ave., W. Vancouver, was identified as his next of kin. His date of birth was given as 4 January 1892; and his trade was that of a painter. He was single, age 23 yrs. 8 months, 5 ft. 7½ in. tall, medium complexion, and had brown eyes. He was a Presbyterian. His certificate of medical examination was completed on 2 September 1915 and he was deemed fit for service.
