- S.L. Man Killed on Highway.
Alvus N. PATTERSON, 84, 2710 Melbourne ave., was struck and killed when he apparently walked into the path of an oncoming automobile on U.S. highway 50 about 100 yards west of 33rd South and Redwood rd. Friday at 9:30 pm. He remained unidentified for several hours until relatives could be reached to confirm his identity. The victim reportedly stepped into the path of an eastbound auto driven by Joseph Tooney, 27, Rigby Ida., who told highway patrol investigators he was unable to avoid the accident.
Suffers Concussion.
He suffered a brain concussion. A witness, Nyle Knowlden, 1600 W. Southgate ave., told Trooper Ernest C. Pearce he saw Mr. PATTERSON walking south on Redwood road shortly before the accident. He narrowly avoided being hit by motor vehicles twice while on Redwood road. Mr Knowlden gave the victim a ride to 35th South and directed him toward Toocle just minutes before the fatal impact. The man had told him he was from Payson, Mr. Knowlden said.
Alvus N. PATTERSON was born June 6, 1864, in Payson, Utah county, a son of Alvus Houston and Martha Fillmore PATTERSON. In 1887, he married Evelyn Steda DOWDLE, who preceded him in death.
