Described as married, husband of Mrs. J. A. SMITHAM, a Pattern Maker. He was born 25 May 1879 in Pennsylvania, the son of Joseph SMITHAM, born England, and [neither name of mother known] born England. Informant: Mrs. J. A. SMITHAM. residing in McAllen, Texas. Death attributed to angina pectoris. Burial on 23 May 1933 in Roselawn. Undertaker: Martin-Nelson Funeral Home, McAllen, Texas.

Funeral services are to be held at 10 am. Tuesday from the Mario-Nelson chapel on south Main here for James Albert SMITHAM, 53, prominent Rio Grande Valley business man. He died at home residence Sunday, at 601 South Twelfth Street after a short illness.. (died 21 May, 1933). Rev. E. A. Hunter will officiate. Interment will be held at Roselawn Cemetery with the Masonic Lodge in charge.
Smitham had resided here for 8 years. He was president & manager of the Valley Iron Works, San Juan. Survivors: his wife Mable Crigler SMITHAM; sons, Lymon E., Dallas; N. L. and Jim Earle, McAllen; a daughter, Miss Lucille, McAllen; and 2 brothers, N. L., Eastland, Tex., and J. W. SMITHAM, Denver Co. SMITHAM was the inventor of the Smitham Irrigation Gate and other appliances. He was affiliated with the Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge & Spanish American War Veterans Organization. He formerly served on the policeboard and as alderman at Florence, Colorado.
