    • (Living names removed) Roland E. WURSTER, 90, of 902 Garfield Ave., Marquette, died early Saturday morning, February 2, 2008 at his home in the loving presence of his family.

      Roland was born on May 11, 1917 in Northfield Township, Michigan to the late John and Luella (Jedele) WURSTER and graduated from Ann Arbor High School in 1936. On October 17, 1943, he married the former Grace HALL in Ann Arbor.

      Roland served on the Ann Arbor police force from 1939 through 1941. He also proudly served his country with the United States Army from 1941 through 1945 as a military policeman and was discharged with the rank of Captain.

      Roland was formerly employed as buildings and grounds superintendent for Ann Arbor Public Schools from 1958 to 1967. In 1946, he and his wife, Grace, opened Rolly's Landscape Service in Ann Arbor, later owning and operating three other locations; the Garden Gate in Ann Arbor, Timbercrest Resort and Garden Center in Naubinway and Timbercrest Garden Center in Marquette, retiring in 1998.

      Roland was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Marquette and was a life member of the Negaunee VFW Post. He was also a former Lions Club and Moose Lodge member.

      He was preceded in death by a son, Barry Roland WURSTER on August 21, 1969; three sisters, Lucille LEIMENSTOLL, Florence STIELE and Gladys RICHARDS; also a brother, John L. WURSTER on January 24, 2008.

      A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Messiah Lutheran Church in Marquette with the Rev. Timothy Bernard officiating. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the church on Wednesday.

      Another memorial service will take place at a later date in Ann Arbor at Bethlehem United Church of Christ.

      In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mr. Wurster's memory to the Marquette General Foundation to benefit the Hemodialysis Unit, 580 W. College Ave., Marquette, MI 49855
