- Obituary - Mrs. John J. BECK. On Saturday evening, August 5th, 1961 the community of Murray River was saddened by the death of one of its life long residents, Mrs. John J. BECK in her 81st. year. Although Mrs. BECK had been in ill health for the past several years she was able to be up and around every day until she was stricken on Wednesday morning, August 2nd.
Born on January 22, 1881 at Nine Mile Creek, she was the daughter of the late Roderick and Euphemia (Darrach) CAMPBELL. In 1900 she married the late John J. BECK who predeceased her in 1953. She leaves to mourn three sons, Hubert of Boston, Mass., Benjamin of Summerside and Elwood at home, also seven daughters, Mary, Mrs. S. D. ZERNIKO of New York; Vivian, Mrs. J. B. JENKINS, Summerside; Connie, Mrs. Fred BROOKS, Summerside; Hazel, Mrs. Gordon SULIS, Lancaster, N.B; Elsie, Mrs. Harry MACKAY, Murray River; Jennie, Mrs. Martin MACPHERSON, Kinross; another daughter Olive of Boston, Mass., predeceased her October 15, 1960. Also two sisters, Lillian, Mrs. DAVISON of Shumacher, Ontario; Jennie, Mrs. William KEIZER, of Iroquois Falls, Ontario. Three brothers, Hector of Nine Mile Creek, William of Ontario, Earl of British Columbia. Four brothers predeceased her. Also 16 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
The funeral was held on August 8, 1961 from Murray River Funeral Home and was conducted by Mr. Ernest Wilkins of Charlottetown, a minister of the Jehovah's Witnesses. Mr. Wilkins spoke of the hope mankind has of being resurrected to a Paradise Earth under God's Kingdom. His text at the grave was taken from 1st Cor. 15 chapter. Interment was in Murray River Cemetery. (Evening Patriot, Oct 26, 1961)
