- Robert Henry CLUTTERBUCK, age 28, serving on the Amethyst. (Overseas death
Robert CLUTTERBUCK, sick berth assistant of the Amethyst, was accidentally killed on the 18th of March. He went on shore that day, and left at 10.30 to return to his vessel. Next day his body was found in the hold of an old hulk lying alongside the Government pier. The belief was that he had been blown over the pier, and thus met his death. At the inquest which was held, a verdict of "Accidetally killed" was returned.

FATAL ACCIDENT: Writing from Montavideo on March 29th, a correspondent says: During the Amethyst's stay at Stanley, a fatal accident occurred to the sick-berth steward, Robert H. CLUTTERBUCK. Whilst waiting on the pier for a boat, it is supposed the poor fellow overstepped the edge and fell on a heap of stones. At Any rate, he was picked up on the following day with his skull severely fractured and quite dead. A subscription was raised on behalf of his widow.
