Born Abt 1821  Morchard Bishop, Devon, England Find all individuals with events at this location  [1, 2
    • While there is no definitive proof that the William who was baptized 1 April 1821 in Morchard Bishop is the same William Woodman who immigrated and married Mary BROOKS, several facts exist which support this belief. 1) William Woodman, baptized in 1821 cannot be found in England after the 1851 census in England. 2) In the pedigree chart developed by Ernest Woodman Wilson with information from the Woodman family bible, William's mother was reported to be a "Miss Tucker, from Devonshire" and William's year of birth given as 1821. 3) His obituary states "He was born in Morfet, Devonshire". This has been interpreted to mean, Morpeth, but Morpeth is not in Devon. Morchard Bishop seems a reasonable possibility as it was commonly called by its first name only, and could have easily been misinterpreted when spoken in a thick Devonshire accent.(Rationale, Anne Brooks)
