    Notes
    • As owner of this website I am often rewarded by other viewers who send me stories of their families and how they interconnect with families in my database. In July 2020, I was contacted by a man from South India who told me that he was interested in Ralph Derby. He said Ralph visited India in the 1970's and met his father, Musthafa, who was a teenager at that time. Ralph helped him go to school and supported him and his family for a decade. Unfortunately they lost contact in the early 1980's and his father, now in his 60's, wanted to know what had happened to him. He said he had a photo of them together when a teenager along with numerous letters Ralph had sent him.

Through the help of a fellow researcher we were able to confirm that the photo was certainly of Ralph and that he had travelled extensively in his earlier years. Unfortunately we had little to give other than a date and place of death and a photo of his memorial stone; Ralph never married and died in 2005 without any descendants. In return we learned that Musthafa always told his own three sons what a wonderful person Ralph was and that they had to become great men like him. We were further rewarded with the knowledge that one of Musthafa's grandsons had been named "Ralph" in recognition and memory of the man who so influenced their lives. It's only a shame Ralph never lived to know about that ....a fitting end for a man who had no children of his own. (Anne Brooks) [3]
