- His obituary in the "Examiner" of March 6, 1860 stated that he was "in the 90th year of his age" when he died on Wednesday, Feb. 22, 1860.
Will of Jean LELACHEUR (1771-1860), Guernsey Cove, Lot 64
In the name of God, Amen.
I John LELACHEUR of Guernsey Cove Lot or Township Sixty four Prince Edward Island, being weake and infirm in Body, but of perfect mind and Memory, thanks be given to God calling unto mind the Mortality of my Body, and Knowing it is appointed for all Men once to Die, Do Make and Ordain this my last Will and Testament, that is to say Principally and first of all I Give and recommend my soul into the hands of Almighty God that Gave it, and My Body I recommend to the Earth to be Buried in Decent Christian Burial at the discretion of My Executors, nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the Mighty power of God.
But as touching such Worldy goods as it hath pleased Almighty God to bless me with in this Life, I give devise and dispose of the same in the following Manner and form, first I give and bequeath, Equally to be Divided between my two living Daughters, Ann and Jane and surviving Children of my Daughter Elizabeth, all my Household furniture, according and Inventory of the same when Brought from my Daughter Harriets House to my Son Bartholemew's, the one thereof said furniture, or my Daughter Elizabeth's part to be equally divided between her Children as above, my Daughter Harriet having kept or retained her portion when the Above said furniture was brought from her House, and Now having No Other Worldy property at present at My disposal except a little Money, should there be any of it left my Lawful Debts while living and the expenses of my funeral being all paid any that may remain to be divided Equally between my Sons Elisha, Bartholemew, David and James, and my Daughers Ann and Jane and the share that should thus have come to my Daughter Elizabeth to be divided between her Children, and further My Son James having Yet to pay, two years after My Death, unto my Estate the Sum of twenty five Pound Currency, on his receiving posesion of the front part of his land as per agreement it being part of the purchase money of his part of the land, the same when paid to be divided equally Amongst my Above Named Children who shares the Money as above, My Son John and My Daughter Harriet having their portions before, and I hereby request that My old Neighbour, James RICHARDS and John ROBIN be the persons appointed to see the purposes of this my last will, to be carried into effect, and to finally arrange the Matters herein contained between my Children. And Thereby utterly revoke and disanull all and any Other Will or Wills by me in any wise, before Made Ratifying and confirming this and No Other to be My last Will and Testament. In Witnes whereof I have hereunto set my hand to seal this twenty fifth day of February in Year of our Lord on Thousand Eight Hundred and fifty two.

- "All baptismal names were French, and in Guernsey this appears to have been a French-speaking family, though they may well have been bilingual. ( Elizabeth WINDSOR's aunt, Mary WINDSOR, and sister, Jeanne WINDSOR, both married Englishmen, as did Jean LELACHEUR's sister, Marie. They all continued to live in St. Peter Port. All the names appear to have been immediately anglicized once they came to P.E.I. Jean became John, (in many records, John, Sr.,), his son, Jean Windsor, became John the Younger; Henriette became Harriet; Elizee became Elisha; and Barthelemi became Bartholomew." [3]
