Notes |
- Another researcher has reported that Ephraim was aboard the brig "Auspicious" which sank on 31 March 1863 in the North Sea. Newspaper reports state:
"Loss of a Vessel and All Hands.
The brig Auspicious, of South Shields, which sailed from the Tyne for Hamburg on the 28 March, was lost on the Bercum Reef, on the 31st. One of the boats has come ashore at Emden, and Mr. Yeoman, master of the Mora, of Sunderland, which vessel was lost about the same time as the Auspicious, reports that the disaster took place a little before daylight, and that immediately after the vessel struck she broke up. Mr. Yeoman saw a boat which he supposed to belong to the Auspicious, in tow of a fishing craft. But as nothing has been heard of the unfortunate crew of the brig, there is every reason to fear that they have perished."
