    • His name appears on the Registers of Seamen's Services as Matthew NESSWORTHY, number 307653. Born South Shields, Durham on 9 September 1882; occupation gas stoker. He signed up for service on 10 November 1904 for a 12 year period. He was described as being 5-5 in height, light brown hair, light blue eyes, and "fresh" complexion. He served on numerous ships during his enlistment and spent some time occasionally in the cells. He was invalidated on 5 December 1907 for "defective eyesight".

      He gave his life during the first World War. George Matthew NESSWORTHY, Third Engineer, Mercantile Engineer, S.S. "Lonada" (London), age 29. Died 29 December 1916, the son of Elizabeth and the late Matthew NESSWORTHY; husband of Margaret NESSWORTHY (nee LANGLEY), of 401 South Palmerston St., South Shields. Born South Shields.

      [His age at death would appear to be a mistake given his birth 9 September 1882; this appears to be the only official record where his name appears as George Matthew].
