    • John William St. Kevern YELLAND, Bachelor, age 23, Stonemason, son of William Henry YELLAND, Stonemason; and Emma RICKARD, Spinster, age 24, daughter of John RICKARD, Carpenter, married 25 December 1876. Both were residing in Devonport at the time of marriage. Witnesses: William Henry YELLAND and W. SYMONS. All were able to write their names. Curate J. Hector Tourcelles.

[If John was born in 1856 (supported by all censuses) then he would have actually been only 20 at the time of his marriage. If Emma was born in 1849, she would have been 27. It appears there is some problem with their ages on the document, and possibly Emma's birth date; in the 1881 census they are four years apart, and in 1891 and 1901, they are two years apart. It also appears there might have been some confusion regarding the occupation of William Henry YELLAND as he had not previously been known as a stonemason]. [4]
