- Funeral: The simple but impressive funeral of Emma J. MACHON, the beloved school teacher of this town, who died suddenly Monday morning, took place at her residence, 109 Burrill Street at 2 o'clock this afternoon and was attended by a large group of her fellow teachers and friends in the town. Rev. William Full, pastor of the Methodist Church, where she was a regular attendant, officiated and spoke loving words of sympathy to the sorrowing sister and other relatives. The floral tributes were magnificent, a silent proof of the love and esteem for Miss MACHON, felt by her many friends. Her scholars (48) at the Essex Street School sent a beautiful wreath of Lawson pinks and from the other pupils in the building was a large mound of mixed flowers. From the teachers at Essex Street School came a large basket of carnations. Loving remembrances were also given by the teachers of the Phillips Building, from the Redington Street School and from the Pine street building, and a great many other beautiful floral offerings. The children from the school where Miss Machon taught marched down to the house at noon, under the guidance of their teachers, and were given the opportunity to take a farewell look of their beloved friend and teacher. Rev. Mr. Full spoke a truthful eulogy of the deceased, who had really died in the harness after such a splendid record as a teacher. The interment will be made in the Swampscott Cemetery. (from the town of Lynn's Daily Evening Item Newspaper)
There are three stones in the cemetery, side by side. Emma Jane's stone is in the middle between her sister, Mary Ann, and another Machon, whose name and details are illegible. (Photograph) Swampscott cemetery records indicate that Miss MACHON was the owner of a ten lot grave. In grave one is buried a Jane MACHON, (d. 1889), grave two, Miss MACHON and grave three, sister Mary (d. age 86, 1927). No relatives have claimed the remaining six plots. (Cemetery records)
