- Woman Killed in Crash: An 82 year old Murray Harbour woman, Mrs. David BROOKS, died of injuries suffered in a two-truck collision on the road between Murray Harbour and Murray River on Saturday evening. She was a passenger in a half-ton truck driven by her son, John BROOKS, also of Murray Harbour. The other vehicle involved was a three-ton truck driven by Winston CLEMENTS of White Sands. RCMP, who investigated, said no other persons were injured in the accident, which occurred about 8.30 p.m.. Dr. Lorne Bonnel, of Murray River, was called to the scene as was Dr. G. S. A. Inman, of Montague, Kings County coroner. RCMP said an autopsy will be performed. An inquest has been ordered by Dr. Inman but the date was not announced. Jury members empanelled were: Ralph Robert BILLARD, Murray Harbour, foreman, Louis MACLEOD, Murray River, Curtis PENNY, Murray Harbour, Gordon MACKAY, Beach Point, Vernon GLOVER, White Sands, Gordon WHITEWAY, Dover, and Ray MACLEOD, Murray Harbour. The death of Mrs. David BROOKS, Murray Harbour, occurred suddenly Saturday evening, October 10th, as the result of a highway accident at Murray Harbour. Mrs. BROOKS, who was 81, was born in Abney, daughter of the late John MACHON and Mary MOORE. In early life she spent some time in the U.S.A. In 1906 she married David BROOKS, who predeceased her 26 years ago. Since her marriage she has resided in Murray Harbour where she was an active worker in her church and community. She leaves to mourn, three sons, John, at home; D. Ray, Murray Harbour, Fred, Summerside; one daughter, Verna, (Mrs. Alexander RATTRAY), Victoria, B.C.; two grandsons and two granddaughters; two great-granddaughters. Two half-brothers, Joseph and Peter, Rhode Island, also survive. Two half-brothers, Daniel and Thomas, four half-sisters, Matilda, (Mrs. BURN); Sarah, (Mrs. GLOVER); Nellie, (Mrs. STUDDART), and Rebecca, (Mrs. BOOTH) predeceased her. Remains are resting at the Murray River Funeral Home. Funeral to take place this afternoon at 2 p.m. from Murray Harbour Presbyterian Church. Interment will be in the Murray Harbour cemetery. - BROOKS Funeral: The funeral for Mrs. Loretta Jane BROOKS was held Tuesday, Oct 18 from the Murray River Funeral Home to the Presbyterian church, Murray Harbour, where services were conducted by Rev. M. Carl CURRIE, Rev. A.G.J. STEEVES and Rev. David BARWISE. Hymns were "Unto the Hills", Rock of Ages, and Abide with Me. Flowerbearers were; John W. GLOVER, Russel BUELL, Ivan GORDON, Cyrus PENNY, James GORDON, and Lloyd HAWKINS. Pallbearers were: Spenser SHARAM, Sheldon HUME, John A. BREHAUT, Rueben MOORE, Howard MACKENZIE and Silas MACKAY. Interment took place in Murray Harbour Cemetery.
She was buried with her husband, David, and other family members; burial plot # F249.
