Plymouth, Devon, England [5, 6] |
Cause: Carcinoma |
- Ebenezer Pentire HORSWILL died at the age of 80, on 24 September 1934, at City Hospital, Plymouth. Informant was T. Chester-Williams, Resident Physician, City Hospital. His last address was 79 King Street, Plymouth. "Other particulars unknown" stated on death registration. No post mortem. He was senile on admission on 10 September 1934, died on 24 September 1934, age 80, cause of death - senility and carcinoma of rectum. On admission under the next of kin section Ebenezer had stated "no friends". Last known address was 79 King Street. (Record Office)
[The death registration does not note who brought him in or where he was buried. His reported age at death was 80, but in fact he was closer to 88; probably staff misunderstood him on admission or he was not able to tell them his correct age.] Anne Brooks

Notes |
- To date, Ebenezer has proven to be elusive. He has not been found in either the 1891 or 1901 censuses, even though Emma, his wife, was listed as still being married. In the 1891 census, one of their sons was listed as the head of the family, while in 1901, Emma was reported to be the head. In the 1911 census, Emma reported herself as being married, and the head; Ebenezer was not present. At his death in 1934, no family member was present and little information was available.
